Matthew S Conroy
I use my art to be heard and noticed. I also create as a therapeutic release of feelings and emotions, affecting me at that specific moment in time. I see art as an amazing form of expression, communicating thoughts and ideas to anyone, regardless if they speak my language or live my lifestyle. Creating art on any level is just one more way to help span the widening gaps between the worlds many languages and cultures. I feel that with every new piece I create, I am honing my communication skills. By using a multitude of mediums and topics, I can express and share my point of view with anyone who is open to see.
My favorite tool is the computer. My favorite medium is ink. I love the way I can use the opaqueness of ink to create the feeling of calmness through layering, while expressing the feeling of anarchy and disorder with splatter and dripping. Ink gives me a great opportunity to cover all the aspects of life. I use the computer to create fine art. Changing the color of the entire piece with one click or tweaking the whole composition with the move of the mouse; my ease on the computer gives me the ability to create an immediate feeling even though that feeling may change hundreds of times during the production of one piece.
My current work revolves around the uneasy times in America viewed by me a mere citizen. I create work with the idea that in order to bring change to our culture, we must communicate our ideas and concerns, in order to get past our differences. I feel that art can be a great avenue to bring about this change.
